Advances in science have shown us that the brain, or thoughts and imagination, can have a huge impact on our physical performance as well as on our body. That is, imagining an action and actually doing utilises the same areas of the brain which means that we can get the same results from imagining something as we do from actually doing it.
Studies have shown that comparing two groups of people that are tasks with improving muscle strength. One group was able to do strength training, the other had to imagine doing the same training, picturing their muscles getting stronger. Amazingly, while the group doing physical exercise improved strength 30%, the group doing visual training improved strength by 22%.
