Hello and a warm welcome!
I am P. N. Purushothaman, a proud former Air warrior of the Indian Air Force, now serving as a Senior Administrative Officer in the State Civil Services. Over the years, I have had the honor of serving across the length and breadth of India and was also part of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUC).
My poverty days ..
My story began in a small, remote village. My childhood days were full of struggles, as we lived in absolute poverty. Our tiled house, which we lived in on rent, had no toilet facilities, and it leaked during rainy seasons. My parents struggled a lot to make both ends meet and often had to take loans at exorbitant rates from greedy moneylenders for emergency expenses.
My dreams…
Despite my bad situation, I secretly had a very big dream deep inside me. It was to become a civil servant someday. That desire came to me after watching an old movie in which the hero, a person from the lowest ebb of society, becomes a civil servant after much effort and then helps the poor and downtrodden escape from poverty using the government machinery.
My Air Force days…
After my graduation (BSc Physics), I joined the Indian Air Force as an Airman. I served for 17 years in the defense services and owe a lot to the organization for not only helping me come out of my poverty but also instilling in me very high qualities like discipline, punctuality, grit, perseverance, and commitment.
Joining the State Civil Service…
While serving in Amritsar, Punjab, I got the opportunity to write the exam for the Kerala State Civil Service Executive post (Deputy Collector). There were only two vacancies for general candidates, and the number of applicants was 277,000. Finally, I was selected when the results were announced and joined Kerala State Civil Service as Deputy Collector.
