UPSC GK Memory Trick:-Grasslands (Association Method)

Posted on August 4, 2025August 8, 2025 Puru By Puru No Comments on UPSC GK Memory Trick:-Grasslands (Association Method)

The fundamental principle of any memory trick is to link the new knowledge you want to learn to something that you already know. It is so simple. This is known as the association method. In the following memory trick, I have used this method. To create the story, you should first prepare the details about all the things you need to memorize, and then try to link the unknown to something already known.

The mind always remembers and recollects funny, interesting, and illogical facts quickly. Hence, you should use this particular nature of the mind for memorizing the facts.

In this material also I have also given illogical stories, etc., to help the mind recollect the facts quickly.

A word of advice: You should try to learn about how the association method is used to remember the names of grasslands in this book and put it to use in memorizing other facts.

Please note: The entire material is covered in this manner.

  1. TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE  (At present)
  2. LEARN THE FACTS
  3. LEARN THE MEMORY TRICK
  4. TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE AGAIN (REALIZE THE POWER OF YOUR BRAIN).

(I). TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE (At present)

Before going into the MEMORY TRICK to REMEMBER NAMES of GRASSLANDS FOREVER, please answer the following:

(It is very important…Test your knowledge before learning the trick, and again test it after learning the trick… Only then will you come to know the actual value of your own brain.

QUESTIONS:-

1.  What type of grasslands are found in South Africa?

2. Name the grasslands found in North America.

3.  What is the name of the grassland found in Eurasia?

4.  Rangeland is the grassland found in?

5. The Savanna is found on which continent?

6.  What is the name of the grassland found in South America?

HOW MUCH DID YOU SCORE? ________

(II). THE FACTS

Grasslands are known by different names on different continents.

  • North America – Prairies.
  • South America – Pampas.
  • South Africa – Veld
  • Northern Africa—Savannas
  • South-eastern Australia – Rangelands
  • EURASIA (EUROPE+ASIA)—Steppes

(III) THE  MEMORY TRICK (IMAGINATION IS THE KEY)

FIRST OF ALL, CLOSE YOUR EYES AND TRY TO SEE (IMAGINE) CONTINENTS ONE BY ONE IN A SEQUENCE….

  1. North America
  2. South America
  3. Eurasia (Europe+Asia)
  4. North Africa
  5. South Africa
  6. Australia

1. What comes to your mind when you think of North America?

Yes, OBAMA

Imagine OBAMA PRAYING for his election victory in a church… Imagine, his hands are folded, his eyes are wet, and he wipes his tears with the help of GRASS instead of a handkerchief!!!!!

NORTH AMERICA = OBAMA = ELECTION = CRY + GRASS = PRAYER = PRAIRIE

Therefore, Obama from North America is linked to ‘prayer,’ and prayer is linked to ‘prairie.’

2. What comes to your mind when you think of South America?

Yes, football… Argentina, Brazil… (Maradona and Pelé)

Imagine Maradona and Pele playing football on a ground full of GRASS. Suddenly, a fight occurs between PELE AND MARADONA over a penalty shot. Pele hits Maradona with a CYCLE PUMP, and Maradona bleeds heavily…

SOUTH AMERICA = PELE + MARADONA = FOOTBALL  = QUARREL = CYCLE PUMP =  PAMPA

3. What comes to your mind when you think of Europe and Asia?

IF NOTHING, HERE IS A SMALL STORY…

IMAGINE a love story… an Asian man who wants to marry a HEAVY EUROPEAN WOMAN. The condition set by the girl’s father is that he should carry the HUGE WOMAN and climb 1000 STEPS TO CHURCH… He fails and pleads to the woman to EAT GRASS and reduce her weight… She eats grass and reduces weight, and the man easily carries her and climbs 1000 steps. They get married

EURASIA = LOVE STORY = 1000 STEPS = STEPPES

4. What comes to your mind when you think of North Africa?

Think of GADDAFI… He killed many people by beating them with GRASS, and therefore, his country revolted and killed him with a blade of grass. Later, they celebrate this occasion with A BOTTLE OF SEVEN UP. They make a huge victory monument in the shape of a SEVEN UP BOTTLE as a mark of victory

NORTH AFRICA = GADDAFI = killed by people =   SEVEN UP BOTTLE = SAVANNA

5. What comes to your mind when you think of South Africa?

YES, MANDELA

“Mandela” using a WELDING machine and FIXING GRASS to his head to hide white hair!!!

Mandela = Welding GRASS=VELD

6. What comes to your mind when you think of Australia?

Yes, kangaroos.

Imagine a kangaroo coming to India to play CRICKET. He wants to play with Rajinikanth. But organisers refuse. So he runs all over the ground shouting RAJNI, RAJNI, RAJNI…I want to play with RAJNI in RAJNI’s Land.

Therefore, Australia = kangaroo in ground = RAJNI  = RAJNILAND = RANGELAND

(IV)  NOW ANSWER THE QUESTIONS AND REALISE YOUR BRAIN POWER
